#OTD in 1941 penetration trials of two T-34 tanks were completed at the Mariupol factory. Trials showed that the tank was still vulnerable against 45 mm shells at close range from the side. Experimental applique armour was developed to improve protection. #tanks #history #WW2

On 19 August 1942 he was deported from #Drancy to Auschwitz in a transport of 1,000 Jews. Murdered in a gas chamber after selection on 21 August 1942.

Kurt Bruhn was a German clerk born in Königsberg on 20 December 1913.

Registered in Auschwitz on 27 November 1941.

No. 23520
He perished in the camp on 24 October 1942.

One of at least 77 prisoners persecuted for their sexual orientation. Another 25 could have been initially arrested for their real or alleged homosexuality, but had a different category. Some scholars speak of up to 140 prisoners persecuted for their sexual orientation.

23 December 1900 | A Pole Franciszek Jaźwiecki was born in Cracow. A painter.

Auschwitz prisoner no. 79042.

He illegally created many portraits of co-prisoners at Auschwitz, Buchenwald, Sachsenhausen, and Gross-Rosen camps. He survived.

Among surviving documents, we can find his Auschwitz registration photograph as well as his self-portrait from Auschwitz.

Franciszek Jaźwiecki passed away in October 1946.

21 December 1944 | A Hungarian Jewish girl, Angela Orosz Richt, was born in Auschwitz II-Birkenau.

Her mother was deported from Hungary when she was 3-month pregnant. She risked her life in the camp to keep the pregnancy secret.

Angela was liberated on 27 January 1945.

Today she lives in Canada & turns 78.
