#OnThisDay in 1797, Mary Shelley was born!

The mother of science fiction, she wrote some of #Frankenstein whilst living in #Bath!

I really want to go to the House of Mary Shelley in Bath one day!!

If I had space, she'd be in my upcoming book about women in Somerset through the ages.

Snippet from my upcoming book about women in Somerset through the ages! It's actually a direct quote from one of the women's journals! And yes it's THAT Wilberforce!!

"In the month of August 1789, Providence directed Mr Wilberforce and his sister to spend a few days at Cowslip Green."

#qotd What's a quote from a book you've read that you love?

This building has the only contemporary images of two really important historical women: Inés Huaylas (or Quispe Sisa) and her daughter, Francisca Pizarro! #restoration #inca #womeninhistory

This is an old article but I can't see any update so perhaps it's still in need of restoration.

Adela Breton was a trailblazing archaeological artist. She grew up in #Bath and died 100 years ago yesterday (13th June 1923).

Her meticulous copies of the wall paintings at #ChichenItza & #Teotihuacan in #Mexico, are the only full record of what was there at the time.

She will feature in my book Intrepid Women in Somerset, coming soon!

Got excited when the book I'm reading mentioned #Martock in Somerset!

Kudos to the author for great research. Margaret Beaufort inherited the manor house there.

On #23May 482 years ago, an Inca princess was watching her mixed-race son get baptised...

Check out Intrepid Dudettes of the Inca Empire to find out more. Link in bio ;)

On this day in 1541, Juan Pizarro Yupanqui
was baptised. He was Cuxirimay's son with
the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro.
Juan died young, but his mother, Cuxirimay,
lived an incredible life in Cusco.
When the Spanish came, she was betrothed to
the Inca emperor Atahualpa, then raped by an
indigenous turncoat, then in a relationship
with the top conquistador, then lastly married
to the author of an important chronicle. To
find more, check out my
book: Intrepid Dudettes of the Inca Empire

Today I stumbled upon this woman:
Elizabeth Ogilvy Benger
born in West Camel, Somerset, in 1775
and spent her first years of life in Wells
but she lived mainly elsewhere in England.
She was a biographer, poet and feminist.

Not much is known about Eadburh prior to her marriage to Beorhtric in 789, because she is a woman in history, so of course there isn’t. However, what we do know is that once the two were married, Eadburh took one look at her Super Weenie Hut Jr. of a husband and said “No, fuck this, actually I’m going to rule Wessex myself.”

The comment at the bottom of this photo nearly made me spit out my coffee

This is the month in which a Spanish chronicler and husband of Cuxirimay died. She was an #Inca princess who had been Atahualpa's fiancé (or principal wife according to some accounts). It's believed Cuxirimay helped Juan write some of his book.
