Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters in Spain’s Basque Country formed a human mosaic representing the Palestinian flag alongside a reproduction on a giant banner of Pablo Picasso’s iconic anti-war painting, Guernica, Reuters news agency reports.
The protest on Friday took place in Guernica’s former market square which was aerial bombed in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War by Nazi Germany’s Luftwaffe.
During the time of the Spanish Inquisition, Pope Innocent VIII condemned cats as evil and thousands of cats were destroyed. This had a rather bad knock-on effect as the widespread killing of cats led to a spike in the rat population, which accelerated the effects of the Black Death. oops!

Not wildlife as such but worth a mention of seriously wind weather crossing into Spain from Portugal; one snapped tree after Evora, stopped to help remove it, a lot later two ore, one either side of narrow road, services already in place, rain,,,, in high pressure hose sort of, wind stripping molecules from a Medieval castle.... ;O) and at 853m asl!
Ah Ok, have this for your entertainemnt...
' Well I had and I didn't have a plan, for this, though between the severe weather (wind 100kph - open hose rain - looks like Wales), two broken trees across the road one each side, of course, services already in place, to make a short story shorter, I had in mind that if the weather was good I would come up here to have a look at the landscape; the weather was bad, still is very bad, and apparently worse to come, but OK, not much of a landscape, but the town... well... the town...
Wearing my Welsh coat of rain, decided to go for a walk around the place, did the lot minus the castle as it was closed, and it is a Medieval marvel, proper and authentic. Stopped at a hotel and asked if they had a room, yes and given the low season, cheaper than usual, so took it. Yep. Went down again thusly completing the circuit, got the car and brought it up to the hotel, blimey, what a narrow and twisty climb!
I apologise if my timeline for the next week is filled with landscapes and scenes from the mountains of the Picos de Europa. I have only just been able to get the images off camera (I know, I'm a bit old school that way!).
The mountains here completely blew me away! Anyway, here's a sample from the week to come. Dramatic peaks, cloud inversions, narrow gorges and beautiful alpine meadows.
Spanish company PLD Space launched its reusable Miura-1 rocket early on Saturday from a site in south-west Spain, carrying out Europe’s first fully private rocket launch.
The startup’s test launch from Huelva came after two previous attempts were scrubbed. The Miura-1 rocket, named after a breed of fighting bull, has a 100kg cargo capacity.
The launch carried a payload for test purposes but this will not be released.

Europe’s rail network has dramatically declined over the past three decades, new research warns, while investment in roads has soared.
The bulk of the railway closures took place in Germany, Poland and France.
Ten countries have bucked the trend, however, and report a net increase of their railway networks’ lengths.
