Took a look at @disroot after my account was approved today, and here is #Accessibility first impressions.

Firstly, they act as a kind of pool for you to use other apps like an XMPP server and a NextCloud server. An alternative search engine is provided, https://howto.disroot.org/en

Accessibility is dependent on how those third party apps were designed. I can talk about their email, but I didn't like the web interface. I much rather set up aliases and stuff in #Thunderbird, the only email client I use.

The web interface for email is about 95% screen reader friendly. There are some quirks though, like combo boxes having links in them instead of it just being a regular combo box. Certain pages loaded automatically when trying to orient myself, making the process of configuring my settings much more tedious than it otherwise would have been.

That being said, almost all stuff is labeled and easy to find. One major accessibility flaw is in a secondary navigation menu that is supposed to guide you through various aspects of email settings. Filters, auto replies and more. These tabs appear in what looks like a horizontal treeview. These tabs automatically change when navigating through, making email setup a much longer chore than it otherwise would have been. It wasn't a show stopper for me, but not everybody is as tech savvy as I am. That being said.

Most of their third party services they offer, I'd say rate about 80 or 90 on my accessibility scale. Maybe 70 if I'm having a bad day. Not quite, but almost a truly accessible experience. For example, #NextCloud.

In short, apps like NextCloud still have a long way to go, but if you mainly use text files, like me, then using NextCloud via WebDav is the best way to use NextCloud to bypass some of the accessibility hickups.

Their #XMPP service is fantastic! I haven't tried the #Matrix bridge yet but I will later.
