got another combo deal for ya from a few years ago. i wish i'd had a nice camera at this point since this was one of the most beautiful places i've been to. i was in the mountains of north georgia, usa and this little patch of forest contained more mushrooms than i've ever seen anywhere else. there were chanterelles absolutely everywhere along with so many different types of moss and lichen. i was overwhelmed by all the amazing small things to look at

A month after we met, my husband and I took a hike to the Madenburg castle ruins above Eschbach, in the Pfälzerwald (Palatinate Forest), Germany. There had been a light dusting of snow throughout, and at the highest elevations rain had frozen horizontally on branches. There was a stillness in the air, which this photo captures beautifully.

Building #sporophytes holding fresh or ripe #spores for my #moss #embroidery. I am working with a magnifier because the tiny #rocailles are size 9/0 and the wire has a diameter of 0.315 mm. It took a time to invent sporophytes for an embroidery. Now I have still to solve the problem how to fix them. The wire is so thin that I have to make holes with a needle. Found this apparently completely dried piece of lichen on a rock, scattered by black bears when foraging.
I took it home, watered it all over, and put it in a small cup.
The second photo, taken 24 hours after watering, shows how quickly lichens and mosses recover after a rain.
