"Researchers Recognized The Language"

cubby posted The Language You Cry In, "an amazing scholarly detective story that searches for —and finds— meaningful links between African Americans and their ancestral past. It bridges hundreds of years and thousands of miles from the Gullah people of present-day Georgia back to 18th century Sierra Leone."

This week's comic: What we are experiencing in America right now is not so much a "culture war" as an asymmetrical attack on basic freedoms and human rights.

FRAMING FUNNIES: "Culture Wars"

1. The term is being thrown around a lot these days.

"Both sides need to stop these endless culture wars." - Pundit on Bourgeois Babblers

2. Don't want to "take sides" as extremists attack LGBTQ people? Call it a "culture war."

The "culture" of homophobic, transphobic bullies vs. the "culture" of LGBTQ people wanting to be left alone

3. Same goes for race

The "culture" of white supremacy vs. the "culture" of equality

4. In fact, you can easily both-sides any human rights battle

1940-
The "culture" of wanting a world without Jews vs. the "culture" of Jews wanting to exist

I feel like being able to translate this from “The Princess Bride” is a small milestone for any novice learning Spanish:

‘Hola. Mi nombre es Iñigo Montoya. Tú mataste a mi padre. Prepara a morir.’

But am I right? Feel free to correct me.

A still from the movie “Princess Bride”, showing the character Inigo Montoya holding a rapier to the face of a six-fingered man. Both are dressed in late medieval or Renaissance costume, and they’re in a large castle hall with candles. Montoya is a striking fellow with shoulder length black hair and a moustache.

Please, also use #language tag for your posts 🤗

So people can make use of language filter tool in your profile (per user filter, in the three dots menu).
mastodon web interface with language selection tool opened in the compose message box. It helps user to filter your posts when you use several languages, so they can read only those they want and filter what they don't. Filter is available as "per user" in their profile (three dots, language filter)

LANGUAGE: It’s enslaved persons, not “slaves”. We are people who were ENslaved. When you say “enslaved”, you make clear that someone else did this to us. When you say “slave” you speak the language and mindset of the people who did this to us. This is important. It is not semantics. #history #language #enslavedpeople #Black #Mastodon #words

This seems to be becoming a habit of mine now as I begin to use Mastodon more and continue to learn more about it each day.

This one covers the options available to you when posting content such as Alt Text and Content Warnings but also talks about language settings and using filters to tidy up your timelines.

Any boosts will be greatly appreciated so we can help everyone get the most out of Mastodon.

An #introduction might start by noting my decades of work since MIT in tech arenas like symbolic math, programming language design & standardization, hypertext & traditional typography, hospital scheduling, and genetics. But is this topics list the sum of me?

I aspire to be someone of soul, of heart, of conscience--someone who puts back into the world more than he's taken. #Writing is often my tool. See my personal web site at https://nhplace.com/kent.

At netsettlement.blogspot.com I've blogged about Social #Justice, the #Climate Crisis, #Politics, #Privacy, #Ethics, Impact of #Technology on #Society, #Philosophy, #Language, and even #Love. Usually in essay form, though sometimes #story or #poetry.

I speak #English natively, #Spanish passably, and self-taught #Portuguese clumsily.
