A bit of golden winter sugar icing. 🌳 ❄️

I made this image in Northaw Great Wood - a fairly large ancient woodland near home. It's an area I had previously written off after a couple of visits, but it is fast becoming a favourite destination.

After a fresh perspective, I've realised there are SO MANY opportunities to make interesting images there. There's arguably an entire series just on gnarly, mossy branches.

I'm a bit late today with posting. But the good news is,the dark clouds from yesterday cleared - still a bit foggy (hence today's picture), but there's brightness again 🙂
Hope you like the image, it is from a hike in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Germany, I suddenly had to stop, take a picture & declare "doesn't it just look like something out of a fairytale?"

A month after we met, my husband and I took a hike to the Madenburg castle ruins above Eschbach, in the Pfälzerwald (Palatinate Forest), Germany. There had been a light dusting of snow throughout, and at the highest elevations rain had frozen horizontally on branches. There was a stillness in the air, which this photo captures beautifully.

I love the miniature #landscapes of #nature. This image of a tiny #forest of pixie cups - a type of lichen which is a mutualistic relationship between fungus and algae - was taken less than 200m from my house in the Frontenac Arch... The living world is amazing!!!

A miniature forest of pixie cups, a type of lichen. Though they appear like odd branchless trees widening as they rise and with a canopy shaped like a cup or bowl, they are less than 2cm tall.
