59 years ago today, the first computer program written in #BASIC was run.

The easy-to-learn and -use #programming language revolutionized #computing. A decade later, #BillGates would co-found #Microsoft to develop and sell the BASIC interpreter for the #Altair 8800, the first commercially successful desktop microcomputer.

I have a feeling this will appeal to multiple people for multiple reasons.

Four panel comic depicting a bearded wizard and his young apprentice standing by a magic circle with several arcane sigils.

First panel: The wizard says, "It's time to learn about magic circles." Apprentice says, "Ugh, why is it so complex?"

Second panel (close up of the circle): Apprentice points to a sigil and asks, "What does this symbol in the center do?" Wizard replies, "It's Levr's symbol, a crucial pattern to pull arcane power into reality."

Third panel (close up of another part of the circle): Apprentice asks, "Then what does this diamond do?" Wizard replies, "It's Kier's symbol, which isn't actually necessarily anymore... but the whole spell falls apart without it for some reason."

Fourth panel: Apprentice asks, "Then what does this--" Wizard responds, "I don't know. I just copied it from Arcane Overflow and it works."

Alright, so for day 5 of #100DaysToOffload, I wrote a script that let's me edit tags on any post from my #blog in an easier manner, even if my #coding skills with #bash aren't that great

@Perl@plicease's #WebAssembly in #Perl distribution https://metacpan.org/pod/Wasm (using #Wasmtime) now has competition in the form of Felipe Gasper's #Wasmer-based https://metacpan.org/pod/Wasm::Wasmer.

With @PerlFFI's ability to build Perl extensions in C, C++, #Rust, #GoLang, #Pascal (!), #Fortran (!!), and even #assembly (!!!), you can plug just about any high-performance code into Perl.

Check out what finally arrived! It's surreal to hold the product of three years of my life in my hands. #DeadSimplePython #python #coding #nostarch #books #writing

Thank you! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it and found it useful

It’s designed and written to be a friendly and relaxed approach to learning #programming and #Python while still being thorough, of course.

Let me plug it here by putting the link for anyone else in an early or intermediate stage of learning #coding, especially those going down some sort of data analysis or scientific programming route:

Since moving from #MATLAB to #Python all those years ago, I had used meshgrid() the “non-ideal” way for so long–it was just habit from many years of using it in MATLAB

But now I know better, and my memory usage will be happy in so many cases!!

If you’ve come to #Python directly from #MATLAB, as I have, and you used to use meshgrid in MATLAB, you possibly use it in exactly the same way in Python?

I did for a very long time…

But Python has more options which can save you execution time and memory

Here’s my exploration of #NumPy’s #meshgrid and other related functions

Coders of fosstodon, I need your help once again.

Tremaux' Maze solving algorithm, I just don't get it. I found a very pretty blog that explained it and all of that.

I just can't get it working. My head is burned out.

I did the wall follower algorithm, linked below, I should be able to modify it a bit but I don't know how.

Any help?

Using Python to create a solar system

If anyone is looking for a fun exercise to flex their #Python #coding fingers…

Using just gravitational attraction between bodies, you can create your own 2D solar system with as many stars and planets as you want. Here’s a binary star system with some relatively stable planets

Here’s the article, including a detailed step-by-step tutorial, if you want to read more: Simulating Orbiting Planets in a Solar System Using Python
