1960 Film Poll - Semi-Final Round - Group 1

"Psycho" had no problem taking first - advancing to the 1960 Film Poll Final Round.
I chose "Inherit the Wind," which tied for second, to also advance.

Double Indemnity (1944)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_Indemnity

There's something very kinky about that foot thing going on mid-frame, sex-positivity and all that, but he's smoking while doing it which is just wrong.

Graphically, one of my favourites: the lines, the colours, the composition, the contrast. Top marks all round.

Deadline – U.S.A. (1952)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadline_–_U.S.A.

The German is literally "the mask down" so something like "behind the mask" or "when the mask slips" kind of deal? Not even Bogart's mum would recognise him in this … liberal interpretation.

The Unsuspected (1947)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unsuspected

Calling your movie "The Unsuspected" is like calling it "there is a twist", right? It's the person you don't suspect!

I don't love the design but that typography is pretty out there for 1947. It looks like something from a golden-age Marvel comic.

Scandal Sheet (1952)

3 things about Woody Allen’s INTERIORS

[1978]1. Every design recommendation she makes is more expensive than the agreed upon budget.
2. The back of his head, wintry Manhattan and the tops of skyscrapers. “I will say … it was like an ice palace.”
3. Endless beach fence.

EVIL DEAD 2 is one of my favorite movies. It’s the perfect balance of weird, violent, and funny. The severed hand still gets me to this day. Bruce Campbell was a physical genius in this movie. In their effort to reboot their original film, they made a cult classic.
