Do you remember that #inkscape question I asked a few weeks back about guides being locked and should you be able to make a guide if the guides are locked?
Well... turns out the user feedback is split right down the middle. Half say yes, half say no.
I could let the poor contributor who's been hanging on all this time merge their choice.
Or... design; maybe we unlock all guides when creating a new guide. Maybe increasing the drag threshold to make it slightly harder to drag.
#inkscape UX Question: When you use the "lock guides" option (or button), do you expect it to stop you moving existing guide lines, or also stop you from creating new guidelines?
Most programmers think it should stop you making new guidelines and a fix is prepared by new contributor Pete Eigel; but Mikekov isn't convinced by the solution.
Rather than this being a purely PvP discussion (programmer vs. programmer). What do you think?
If you are drafting figures for a scientific paper or presentation, remember that https://scidraw.io/ exists: a repository of free SVG cartoons for science.

I wrote, illustrated, designed and edited a #book. First timer.
It's been six months and I just realized I did it entirely with #foss (free and open source software), including the OS, #linux. The only exception being the pencil and paper I used for the original writing and sketching. Didn't plan it, I use #krita on a daily basis for my professional #illustration commissions. I thought it was worth mentioning because #foss is unfairly despised by media creation professionals (who are often under-payed).
I published 50 copies, funding it myself. I'm not selling it, I'm giving it as a gift to people from whom I've learned something, or not. It feels much better than any commission I've been payed for, ever. It has given way to very interesting conversations. It's a pretty dark book, and has lots of newbie mistakes (biggest one on the cover...).
I put a belly band on two copies and secretly left them on a shelf in a very popular book store (anti-theft?). The band says "this book is not for sale, it has to be stolen". It's been sitting there for more than a month... even though it's free. Either the book is very bad, or people don't dare, or daring people don't go into book stores, or people don't like free books, or...
¡Buenas tardes Fediverso!
If you attempt what this #inkscape user just tried; I will have to ban you from our project as it's bullying. You may not use #phycological bullshit to attempt to coerce project contributors to do your bidding. EVEN if you are right.
This arsehole was even more out of line because the issue was fixed. He just wanted it released NOW! 🙄
Please join us in congratulating Boxcutter on their soda can Illustration.
Think you have what it takes to be Artist of the Month?
Submit your artwork to our website gallery at https://inkscape.org/gallery/
A quick step-by-step on doing a swirl in Inkscape using Path Effects.
It's a little fiddly aligning the origin but with the plus and minus you can finetune it while zooming in on the start of the spiral.
Buenas noches Fediverso ¿como están? 🙂
Yo estuve avanzando a una actividad de la carrera mientras escuchaba algo de música pero lo deje hace ratito para cenar algo.
#viernesdeescritorio de Inkscape, Ghostwriter y Ristretto en tile con AwesomeWM 🧑💻

#Inkscape 1.3 is out so with a simple:
💻 sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
My Inkscape is automatically upgraded in seconds with tons of supercool features and performance!
(I use the PPA stable 😉)
#Inkscape is proud to present version 1.3! 🎉
You’ll find improved performance, new features & a solid set of improvements - focused on helping users get organized & work more efficiently with our free & open source vector-editing software.
Con licencia CC BY SA 4.0
Elaborado con mucho amor con #inkscape

- It needs to be in PNG or GIF format
- The file needs to be less than 50kb
- It needs to be recognizable at a 20x20 px size
- A reasonable size for high resolution seems to be 512x512 px
Then you may ask your instance admin to see if they can add your emojos to it!
Consider also checking if the emojos you want don't already exist in other instances, you can use https://emojos.in/ for that. Then you can simply right click an emojo, Save Image As... or Open Image in New Tab and copy or download it!
Thing I learned today:
ALT+Scroll in #Inkscape will allow you to easily select objects below the top, visible object. Video depicts this.
Excellent book already: https://www.packtpub.com/product/design-made-easy-with-inkscape/9781801078771
I honestly didn't think it was possible to invent a new type of grid. But thanks to James doing refactoring early this year, it allowed Mikekov to come in and make this belter of a feature. And once you see the modular grid, you go "of course!"
Unfortunately, this will take a year to get into a stable release.
new inkscape version looking rad: shape builder and better font library management? hell yes.

I've been meaning to post about @CRogers 's #inkscape book for a while. I did a review of it during production and I am genuinely impressed by it's ability to square the circle between being approachable and friendly while being professional and seriously instructive. It's also the only Inkscape 1.3 book out there.
Nice work Chris!
You can find the book on various book sites that ship Packt books if you're looking for a great inkscape book by a real inkscape pro.
