Test of the fediverse

I did a #test of the #fediverse. I created a #Diaspora, #Friendica and #Mastodon account. In all 3 accounts I did a post with the tag #annievallotton. Friendica uses the Diaspora protocol and ActivityPub and Mastodon uses Activity pub. The Friendica account was showing posts from the Mastodon and Diaspora instance I joined, so I assume them to be federated to some degree. I expected that when searching for the tag #annievallotton. On Friendica I would see posts from all 3 instances. On Diaspora I would see posts from Diaspora and Friendica and on Mastodon I would see Friendica and Mastodon. However what I found was...
Diaspora = saw #annievallotton posts from Friendica and Diaspora.
Friendica = saw #annievallotton posts from Friendica only.
Mastodon = saw #annievallotton posts from Mastodon only.

Therefore if I want to:
- see posts from Diaspora and Friendica I should use diaspora.
- post to Diaspora and Friendica I should use Friendica.
- post to Mastondon, I should use Mastodon.
Instances were:
diasporapod.no
venera.social
mastodon.online

Fabián Bonetti reshared this.

Not quite right. On Friendica you can see all of them - and can post to the other mentioned networks. But the posts do not magically come to your node. You either have to follow the users posting the tagged content or you need to follow the tag itself (using saved searches).
@Richard Neville it's complicated. 😀 When the Diaspora server has activated the relay delivery and the Friendica server is using the relay functionality as well, then the probability is high that the post had arrived there. Same goes with the AP world. Sadly the Diaspora relay system is not very widely used. I think that AP is doing better there.
Michael, can you try to 'like' some item here with your pirati.ca account? Does it work?
@Michael Vogel Ok. Thanks. I had to clear the browser cache. 😀
Thanks @Steffen K9 🐰 searching for the full username of the diasporapod.no and masterdon I could see the profiles in Friendica. However searching for the hashtag (https://venera.social/search?q=annievallotton) only brought up the results on this instance. Searching for #art brought up results from other instances. I saved the annievallotton search, is there more I need to do or do I need to wait for the posts to propogate?
When nobody on venera.social received that content in the past and no posts tagged with that hashtag were received by other means (e.g. via relay servers) then there is no content stored locally - and you won't get any search results. You see a lot of content for #art because that's a very common hashtag, followed by a lot of people.

That's the nature of a federated network. You don't have all content stored locally on your node - only the content you and other local users have received (plus the mentioned relayed content).
New content (from followed users and tags) will be imported as soon as someone follows them. So, yeah. When you wait some time that content will appear locally, too.
I have a more problematic situation. From different pods of the diaspora, I write public messages with the #question, #help tags, and they are not visible in the threads of other pods when searching for these tags.
